Clarella manor is over 1,000 years old and lies at the feet of the Pyrenees within the valley of Bisaura, a province of Barcelona. Historically, the Crown of Aragon and the Kingdom of Navarre extended on both sides of this mountain range, The name Pyrenees comes from the Greek princess Pyrene who was torn to pieces by wild animals and laid to rest there by Hercules, the very God who had violated her and precipitated her demise. In 2015, the high altitude terraced vineyards were replanted and a bodega constructed. Historians are confident that grape vines for the private use of the family flourished on the property long before the plague of phylloxera ravaged Europe in the 1800’s, hence her vineyard is deemed “replanted.” A total of 5 hectares (12 acres) of Tempranillo, Macabeo (Viura), Reisling, Pinot Noir and other experimental veritals are cultivated at the finca.
