The Wines of Clarella

The Clarella Vineyard

Clarella lies within the Bisaura valley in the region of Osona, a province of Barcelona.  The Clarella manor is over 1,000 years old situated at the feet of the Pyrenees Mountains.  Historically, the Crown of Aragon and the Kingdom of Navarre extended on both sides of this mountain range, which is named after the Greek princess Pyrene who was torn to pieces by wild animals and laid to rest there by Hercules, the very God who had violated her and precipitated her demise!  In 2015, the high altitude terraced vineyards were replanted and bodega constructed.  Historians are confident that grape vines for the private use of the family flourished on the property long before the plague of phylloxera ravaged Europe in the 1800’s, hence her vineyard is deemed “replanted.”  A total of 5 hectares (12 acres) of Tempranillo, Macabeo (Viura), Reisling, Pinot Noir and other experimental veritals are cultivated at the finca.

Clarella Vino Tinto Crianza

A mountain wine from the finest Tempranillo verital.  After a selective, by-hand harvest in the vineyard the grape clusters are placed in small 15 kg boxes to ensure their perfect physical condition for their short journey to the bodega.  Upon arrival, they pass to the selection table where for a second time only the finest grapes are chosen.  The must is fermented in small steel tanks of 200 liters and then passed to french oak barrels to be aged for 12 months and then matured for an additional 6 months in bottle.

Medium intense aromatics of red and black fruits and a touch of lilac and violet flowers all in perfect equilibrium.  A very easy and fresh drinking wine with high natural acidity and ability for long ageing.

A wine with a broad spectrum for pairing with many dishes; all types of red meats, chicken, duck and fatty fishes, rice dishes, spring mushrooms and mild cheeses.
